Problem with my 2004 600RR

I've got a 2004 600RR that starts great cold but won't fire right after shutting down when it's hot. Hit the starter, it cranks once, dash goes dark for a sec, then comes back, but no start until it cools for a bit.

For your information, I already did valve work, timing chain stuff, new battery, starter, and adjusted the manual tensioner. Still no difference. Any ideas what's up?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a hot-start voltage drop. Even with a new battery and starter, heat can cause more resistance in the starter relay, ground cables, or connections. When the dash goes dark, that's a big clue

Have you looked at the voltage at the starter when it's hot? And how's your regulator/rectifier doing? They can cause issues when they heat up too

Wouldn't hurt to test the starter relay under heat, I guess cos they can get lazy when warm, same for the ignition switch wiring, especially on an older 600RR, its usually electrical though not mechanical

I had a buddy who owned an older Fireblade, and it pulled a similar trick, it would run great when cold but would struggle to start when warm. We discovered that the main ground wire had some corrosion lurking under its sheath. After we cleaned it up and re-crimped the connection, the hot-start issues disappeared. It might be a good idea to check your grounds and connections, just in case
