my bro and I are rebuilding a 900rr 1998. My bro is thinking of getting the wheels powder coated instead of painting 'em.

honestly, I never do any of tht to my car. what do you think guys, is this a good idea?

he said it would protect the rim or something, is this true?

any advice is welcome

Powder coating wheels is actually a solid move. Its more durable and resistant to chips and corrosion compared to regular paint. Plus, it gives a cleaner longerlasting finish and great for a rebuild like your 900rr. If you want the wheels to stay looking fresh and protected powder coating is definitely worth considering. Good luck, thats a bond I wish I had. Cheers

Powder all the way man except you want to constantly be looking over your shoulder with painting and by the way, make sure whoever does it knows how to mask the bearing surfaces properly, or you'll be dealing with way bigger problems later

I completely agree! A few years ago, when I rebuilt my bike, I chose powder coating for the wheels. The finish held up for so much longer and didn't chip, even after taking a good beating. Just make sure the shop masks the right areas, it really saved me a lot of trouble with the bearings. Your bro's definitely on the right path
